And The Cycle Begins | Check & Wishlist Lately

February 9, 2017

There's so many things I've been postponing and delaying lately. There's actually an official term for this: PROCRASTINATION. I don't know why I've been consumed so deeply into just pushing my things aside to do other things that aren't really productive (like taking naps, taking looong showers, playing games, etc) but it's taking an effect on my social and academic life, that's for sure. So, in order to bring balance once again into my life and just get a sense of the things that have been going on in my mind, I want to make this virtual checklist of the things I want to do in the near future, and the things that have been happening.

+ First of all, I haven't posted anything in a week. I completely fail at punctuality. The truth is, because I've been delaying all of these things (including college work), I haven't had time to come up with posts + take pictures + post + promote.

From now on, I will try to post on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:00 am EST, as an effort to become more responsible and active!

+ Another aspect of this blogging journey that I haven't really explored or engaged in is promotion. I fail at social media; I haven't used my personal Instagram in about 6 or so months. It's a miracle the Twitter page for this blog is even active and that's because Bloglovin' is amazing and does the posting for me. But, I seek to create an account where I can reach out to my readers (if there are any, lol) and make every post count. So, watch out for a link to a new Instagram account dedicated to this blog!

+ I really wish I could edit my blog so that it has a nice custom home page with a calendar and everything. I'm still learning how to do this so I guess I'm just warning you of new changes to come for the layout of the page. Of course, this won't happen nowhere near now but I'm just saying.

+ Even though I've been studying and busy lately, I still find some time to educate myself on the happenings of the world. I preordered BTS's new comeback CD directly from Korea and I'm a little disappointed in this only because I know it will arrive to my hands much later than actually going to K-town a few days after the release. But, by preordering it, I'm guaranteed some extra merchandise so even though I'm disappointed, I'm excited. (But, don't get me started on shipping costs wth)

+ I found out about the KonMari method of tidying a few days ago and have been obsessed ever since. I have a big obsession with simplicity and minimalism and the KonMari method is just up my alley. I think it is very religious; dare I say, vey buddhist? There's this element of detachment and letting go of the things you don't need in your life because they don't bring happiness, which I think is a great concept to consider when tidying up (even though I am not buddhist).

The KonMari method is inspired by Japanese culture, since it was created my Marie Kondo who is Japanese. I've been so intrigued by the Japanese lifestyle lately because it is very simple and they try to maintain everything minimal. Even the fashion is this way and I'm all up for it. So, needless to say, I'm fortunate to be learning Japanese these days because Tokyo 2020 hell yeah.

+ That being said, I was also intrigued by how the Japanese interpret this into their beauty regimes. Turns out, J-beauty is like a concoction of K-beauty and F-beauty and, if you know me, you'll know that this looks like the thing I've always wanted. The ideal is simplistic, using ancient products that have a long history of being effective, but incorporating elements such as sheet masks and essences to achieve healthy looking skin, while caring and paying attention to the needs of your complexion. As for makeup, they try to be as minimal as possible with the hopes to create a natural healthy look. Literally everything I want.

+ Last but not least, my ultimate goal for this year is to become more tidy. And, this applies to my studies as well - tidy in the sense of becoming more responsible and less procrastinative (is that even a word?). I actually like getting sh*t done and feeling like a powerful woman who can do anything. But, somehow napping gets the best of me (have you noticed how my About page picture is me sleeping?). So, my goal is to sleep more at night so I won't want to nap during the day. This way, I can also wake up earlier and get more stuff done in the span of that day.

I really need to stop the procrastination cycle from getting any more intense or lasting any longer.
What do you struggle with the most? I get a sense that we all are procrastinators who aren't even ashamed.

These pictures literally have nothing to do with the text in this post. I'm trying to get in the habit of taking pictures for every post because this makes it look prettier and organized. It also gives it a little sense of cohesion (even though that does not apply here, lol). Nevertheless, hope you enjoy a creepy view into my dorm room...

What I Got for the Holidays

January 12, 2017

I'm Latina so I can't really make "What I Got for Christmas" posts and then talk about everything I got because people would get the wrong impression that I am spoiled. In catholic-prominent countries, we extend the Holidays all up until almost halfway through January, although in Puerto Rico they kind of last until the day before Valentine's day (let's be real). On January 6th we celebrate Epiphany, or the Three Wise Men day, and we celebrate it almost like Christmas and get/give presents. This is the main reason why I have many things featured in this post, and I also included things I bought randomly through vacations.

I already wrote this in another post (read here) but I got a mini Christie Carryall bag from Coach for Christmas and I think I fell in love. It's black with gold hardware and I love it because most of my accessories, with the exception of my Tiffany necklace that I tend to wear everywhere, have golden detailing. It's sturdy and so compact; however, I can still fit my DSLR and lens in it and it works because I don't travel with much anyways.

I got a blow-dryer and curler as my Epiphany gifts. I realized right before I came back from school that my blow-dryer was only blowing cool air (which is not very useful) so I had buying a blow-dryer on my to-do list for quite some time. So, naturally, I was super happy to get one as a gift and this one from CHI is super quiet but potent which is all I ever needed.

Funny story with this curler is that, initially, my gift was a straightening iron but since my hair is naturally straight, I don't really need further "straightening" after lightly blow-drying my hair... so I exchanged it for a curling wand. This curling wand from Revive was so much cheaper than the straightening iron that I could buy a couple of other things, so I bought a bareMinerals Illuminating Lotion thingie (that I haven't really figured out yet, as you can see), and a skincare set from Tatcha which is a brand I've been wanting to try out for so long now. I guess everything turned out on my favor, right? (laughs) I received all of this from Marshalls.

The list of things I bought over the break is almost never-ending. I mean, the pile of stuff I kept popping out to take pictures of shocked me so much and it's the main reason why I cry at night because I might not be able to go to BTS's concert (I'm kidding). I've been wanting a shadow palette for a while and specifically one that had like a taupe-purple color and I found the TruNaked Roses one from CoverGirl and I super love it. I haven't played enough with it but the colors are so dreamy and blend really nicely which is the most you can ask for in drugstore shadows.

I bought quite a lot of skincare, starting with a Bee Venom mask (which is a really popular ingredient in South Korea, apparently), a couple of belif Aqua Bomb 100 points perk from Sephora, and a bunch of sheet masks from Tony Moly. I also bought a brow-pomade contraption thing from L'Oreal and a waterline brush from Kiko Milano. Also, I'm sorry I'm not listing the products and things I got properly, or linking them, but it's because I'm planning on doing review / makeup look posts in the future featuring these products.

Lastly, I bought a pink beret from Nordstrom that has me head over heels.

I keep listing and it just feels surreal to me how many things are in this list. But, beyond the material things listed here, I'm beyond satisfied and happy that I got to spend time with my family. I ate so much, which is almost incredible to believe because right before I left uni I wasn't eating well / at all so, I'm glad I got to pick up my appetite which is healthier than not eating at all.

I've been working really hard to understand my camera! I've never taken photography classes before so I'm just taking tips from friends and family who have and I guess I just have to keep practicing. My editing skills are nowhere near what I want my pictures to look like and this stresses me more than not being able to understand my camera. I don't have any editing apps on my computer which I guess is a really big factor but, it's up on the wish list.

Now with only one week left before college starts back again, my family is making sure to use me all up because I'm the only one who drives at home apart from my parents and, since they work, they usually need me to carry out chores or just get stuff done that needs more time or whatever. I don't mind, I actually like this because I get out of my house which is what I most like since I'm always trapped in my dorm room once I go back to school. Nevertheless, I don't want to go back! I mean, I'm home - I never want to leave home.

A List of Wishes | (feat. Photo Journal)

January 10, 2017

I'm a person who likes to plan ahead of time. I also really like lists. I started looking forward into the year and looking at all of the things that will happen, things I have to do, things I want to do, and stuff that could inevitably happen, etc. Turns out, 2017 is going to be a really eventful year so it's not a bad idea to look forward and prepare for what's to come, right? Perhaps this post is boring but I guess it's just a glimpse into my life.

+ I got a new camera at the end of last year so I want to learn how to take awesome photos... Not only of the products and things I will feature here but of the landscapes and places I'll visit.

+ My sister and I are preparing for BTS's upcoming World Tour and, conveniently, they're having a concert in New Jersey so we're preparing / screaming / excited / fangirling / saving up ($$$) to the max for it.

+ There's a bunch of things I've been wanting lately so I made a list in Shoptagr that keeps piling up and growing and I'm scared I won't be able to sacrifice and save up for BTS... it's scary.

+ I want to make my blog content better, more informative, while still being interesting. I like writing and, in the past, I tried to restrict my writing in my posts to the very minimal, purposely trying to be brief so that my readers wouldn't click out. However, I find that this made my posts very superficial and lacked information relevant to support everything I'm trying to claim. So, I want to work on this even if it takes me forever to finish my posts. #QualityOverQuantity

+ Along these blog-improvement lines, I watched a video that taught me so much of the value of a content-creator's work. I never thought of myself as a content-creator because I mostly contribute to this blog as a hobby but, regardless, that's literally what I am because I create content to post on this blog. Because of this, I want to be more picky when it comes to content, style, and brands I feature / work with for and on the blog.

+ I have started to take an interest in other aspects of beauty such as haircare and nail design. Although I am NOT good at nail design, I plan on taking care of my nails more this year and hopefully go to nail salons whenever I can and get cute designs, etc.

+ Finally, this is more for self-growth but, I want to change my style: style of living, fashion style, makeup style, travel style, studying style, etc. I am becoming an adult so I should think and act more like an adult and that's what I want to transpire onto the blog, as well.

I took these pictures when me and my family went to the recreational area of the Reserva Natural del Lago La Plata, which is the longest lake / river in Puerto Rico. My mom is pursuing her Master's degree on Environmental Science and she's doing some research on the water of this lake and, because I've been studying this whole time in the US, I haven't been able to see where her research begins so being here (for the first time!) was really breathtaking. It's too beautiful here.

Following Trends

January 5, 2017
I really like trends. Especially because they're trends and don't last too long. I'm not big on social trends, though, (the mannequin challenge and dabbing are not my fields of interest at all) but anything fashion and beauty related, I'm all in.

I'm a Sagittarius at heart which means I'm a free spirit and tend to change pretty frequently. I recently learned a lot about all of this horoscope shiz and realized how relevant everything is to my personality and everything I do. If I were to look back at the person I was 5 years ago, I wouldn't be able to recognize her - both physically and personally. I'm more confident and more independent now, with a lot of reason since I'm 20 years old already, not 15.

I find that style changes a lot from New York to Puerto Rico. I definitely am more New Yorker in this sense because Puerto Rican fashion is very colorful - very adequate for the climate and weather. New York fashion is very monochrome and neutral, mostly all black, and it hits me right in the feels. I'm often made fun of because my outfits are constantly black-on-black, even in scalding weather. But hashtag #SorryNotSorry because that's just how it is!

Recently, there's been this "hype" with dirty-pink shades. I wasn't bothered at first because colors don't really appeal to me. But, it's everywhere. And everyone and their mother keeps wearing it, using it, talking about it - I couldn't be left behind, right? (It even fits with the hues of my blog!) I like it because it's such a faint color that fits with all blacks, grays and whites. Also, the weather this season is so favorable for these shades, I can't resist. I already own a scarf, a beret and eyeshadow to compliment the outfit.

Coincidentally, I found this beret in this pink shade at Nordstrom the other day and you would never imagine my excitement. Berets are also making a comeback this season so, finding one in this color felt like a jackpot to me.

I also feel like cross-body bags are trending lately but, when are they not? They make life so easy because they restrict the amount of shiz I carry around (which is mostly unnecessary to me). Around Thanksgiving time, I noticed a bunch of girls carrying mini cross-body bags, mostly in black and with half-leather-half-chained straps, and this sparked yet another interest in me so I had to go get me a freaking bag. I went and bought a bag the very next day I made this conclusion, believe it or not, but I ended up returning it because, as a 20 year old who has to make mature-yet-perhaps-irrational conclusions/decisions, I decided to spend this money on a designer bag instead. I figured they're more durable and classic and never fall out of style so the splurge wouldn't hurt too much. I ended up getting the mini Christie Carryall bag from Coach as a Christmas gift and it made me super happy.

Beauty wise, I love dewy skin. No, I don't mean sparkly, highlighter-sourced dew. I mean hydrated, moisturized, healthy, and glowy skin. I guess since we're in Winter time, we want the complete opposite of what we have, since this season really dries out the skin. I love taking care of my skin naturally so it doesn't bother me paying extra attention to achieve the glow. But, whenever I see skin that is so healthy that it flushes naturally, I feel the feels.

What are some trends you love or want to try? I keep changing and would love to learn about new and/or international trends and move forward to new ones so help a girl out!

Life Lately | Looking Back on 2016 & Goals for 2017

January 3, 2017
Happy 2017!

I don't mean to make an emotional, long-*ss post that takes up forever to think up but I think it's worth the effort... at least for this kind of post. I'm not a super eventful person, everyone knows this; if I don't have to do something, I will most likely not do it willingly. That being said, I did not have any obligations for making 2016 the best year ever so I didn't. Many things did happen, however, so I think it's worth recapping a few. But, overall, this year has not been what I expected.

Academically wise, 2016 has been my toughest year yet. I finished my second and began my third year of college which means my classes are getting tougher and more loaded and this reduces my amount of "chill" time drastically. I'm not proud of my academic achievements this year; I think I could have done a thousand times better but many things got in the way of this, including my health. I had great hopes of developing my blog over the Fall semester and actually trying to make it a "part-time job" since I was investing so much time in it. Turns out, my studies took over my chill time (all up to the point where I slept for 3 hours a night, two weeks in a row, multiple times in the semester) so I didn't have time to create content for my blog. I don't aspire to become an influential person from this, nor I aspire to actually make a living out of this blog, either. The main reason why I do this is because I love beauty, and fashion, and style, and learning about different trinkets and ways of living life. I'm slowly becoming an old woman (or an adult, however you wanna call it) so I'm interested in getting to know the ways to make life "work", in all its aspects.

Beauty wise, I walked outside of my shell this year and bought many products I thought would be impossible for me to even achieve to try out. I reached out into the "high-end" side of the beauty world and got to experience luxurious beauty for the first time - although I realize "luxurious" is relative to everyone. Never had I imagined of buying a $45+ foundation/cushion or buying skin care directly from South Korea worth over $50... but I did (don't tell my mom, though). I currently own enough products to make a complete 10-step skin care routine possible. I took some pics of my favorite finds and some products I kind of "resurected" from the vault. Literally, some days I can go out with just wearing a thin coat of the IOPE cushion because it makes my skin so bright and even. I've never found something like it. Also, the brow wiz from ABH is a godsend to me, I haven't figured out how to go on from it onto another product. The Klairs serum (I wrote a review here) is the one thing that revives my skin if it is dull or dry or even if I'm going through a breakout phase.

I'm very pleased with all the things I did learn this year, though. I discovered a really passionate love for Korean beauty and European style. I started learning Japanese and I still continue to learn it (specially thanks to my amazing friend Erika). We also went to Disney World over the summer, how could I forget! I got bangs, found out I have the biggest obsession with K-pop (more specifically BTS, where have I been the last 3 years of my life? Wait, I just answered this... I had no life because I've been in college for the past 3 years, duh), I cut my hair super short (no rAgrets), and a bunch of other things that made me grow as a person.

In 2017, I want to get good grades, firstly and foremost to anything else. I really want to make this blogging thing work. It's tough but nobody said it wasn't. I want to come up with a posting schedule and stick to it. Now that I have a nifty camera, I want to learn how to take amazing pictures, edit them, and make it look like I know what I'm doing (excuse this shitty one I took for this post, I'm still playing around and trying to figure out my photography style). I want to have good quality posts that are informative and educative, not just "pretty". I wish I can become more engaged on social media and gain more readership because I want internet friends *cries*. But, most importantly, since I turn 21 on 2017, I want to become more mature and less naive. I feel like it will be a year where I should put some effort into looking, thinking and acting like a grown-up.

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year 2017! Should we put some effort into making it the best year yet?

PS: I know I'm late but 생일 축하, 태태!! 사랑해!!

Trends I'm Really Into

September 28, 2016
I've mentioned before how traveling makes me super sensitive to culture shock, right? It's not just something that I'm imagining, right? You guys know I have a problem, right?

Whenever I come back to college, or whenever I have the chance to chill around NY, I always fall in love with trends I see repeatedly around campus or along the streets. Today I just thought of sharing a few, since it's been a while since I've shared a lifestyle/fashion post here!

I really like the smart-style look mixed with some sporty elements. I think it makes the outfit look very effortless but still shows that you're put together. Also, white shoes are the hype now. They make you look chic, no kidding. Oh, and also, I'm not even gonna talk about black-on-black outfits because they make the world go 'round (I also got shamed for wearing all black everyday by three random people last week which makes me wonder if I'm not pulling it off or if there's something wrong with the world. One of the two!).

I think culottes are getting to me, as well. But, let's ignore that one since I haven't actually made any moves to actually buy one and waste all of my money... moving on.

One day I woke up and I suddenly wanted a tote bag. I feel like they make you look busy, like if you have somewhere to go, and I'm totally into that type of life (that way, I can avoid people with more reason!). (I'm just kidding)

And, even though I'm into that monochrome outfit palette, I am dying to get my nails done at a Korean nail spa and get cute designs on my nails like those! It's weird but I love having girly, delicate nails which makes a huge contrast with my almost-tomboy-ish style, haha. If any of you have ever been to a good nail spa and want to recommend one near the NYC-Manhattan area, please leave your comments down below!

Blogger Spotlight: My Favourite Blogs of All Time

August 20, 2016
I have to admit that I always feel weird whenever I make a post about my own personal interests or things that happen in my life because, to be honest, it is super rare for me to share things about myself so freely and willingly. I especially think it's weird to talk about favourite blogs because they say a lot about you and your interests. It's all the irony of the blogger, huh? However, today, I'm sharing my favourite people with you because they inspire me a lot and they have amazing/breathtaking content on their blogs. They truly make me wish my blog was as good as them! Please enjoy them and show them a lot of love~!

I love everything that The Klog has to offer. The Klog is a Korean beauty, fashion, style, culture blog. They also run SokoGlam.com which I've previously featured on the blog. I especially love how they encourage every aspect of the Korean beauty regime: from the 10-step skin care to facials and spas. They also bring other beauty topics such as the benefits of green tea or the basis of Korean trends. I simply love it because I learn so much and am there browsing around daily.

I discovered the Lovely Complex because Sachie is a YouTuber and I used to watch her a lot prior to finding her blog.  Now, I love to read what she has to say every now and then because we both love anime, beauty and travel. She's also an amazing cosplayer and shares her stories on her blog. She's like the cool girl I've always wanted to be but find so far away to reach.

Love Taza is a popular lifestyle blog that I love because Naomi's life is the life I wish I could attempt to have when I grow up and have a family. Her children are amazing and so beautiful, her adventures around NYC/the world make me want to go everywhere, and she is so pretty! I just love everything she shares! (Also, her instagram account @taza is equally as lovely)

Gray Aesthetic
I follow Gray Aesthetic because I am basically in love with Taylor on instagram (@tayloroctober). Her blog is very minimalistic and simple; she doesn't' have too many words to say. However, the brands she features, adventures she shares, and ideas she writes about are so inspiring! She really inspires me to find ways to be a better person, how to be more economical and minimal in my life, and also have a more detailed eye!

Have you checked these people out before? What are your favorite blogs?

Minimalist Skin Care: Is There Really Such an Option?

August 5, 2016
The short answer is yes! The longer answer? Well, I'm glad you asked...

Life Lately • July 2016

August 2, 2016
Where the hell has my summer gone off to? I realise I've spent so much time doing nearly nothing that I actually feel pretty sorry for myself. But, through all the chaos and nonsense, I still have so many things to report that I cannot even contain myself. Might as well just start because it ain't gonna get any easier.
  • What is even Pokémon Go? Literally, this app is the only thing that had the power to get me out of my house in order for me to find new Pokémons... is that even healthy? (I'm not even going to go there, forget I just asked that) If it wasn't for this, though, I wouldn't have found out that those flowers up top were blooming in my yard (so pretty).
  • There's this Starbucks drink from the secret-menu called green tea frappuccino with java chips and you should try it if you 1. love matcha lattes, 2. love frappuccinos, and 3. want to try the best thing in the world.
  • I'm not even going to make an introduction for this (because I'll sound annoying af) but I'm in love with BTS. Taehyung is my bias and Yoongi is the ultimate bias-list wrecker (in my mind, I have been cheating on V with Suga; it's that intense of a feeling).
How can you chose between these two fluffy creatures? They make it so hard.
  • The Klog is my most favourite blog in the history of favourite blogs and you guys have to obsess over it just like I am, pretty please.
  • This gives me such strong Sailor Moon vibes. I want it so bad for my dorm room.
  • I love anything mystical (it's one of my biggest secrets, shhh) and these 5 ways to bring new vibes to your life with crystals are way too cool.
  • This little tour-guide into Korean beauty in NYC is giving me life (makes me want to go back to school already so I can get my shopping on)!
  • I finally dyed my hair! My hair was dyed in a way I like to call an "unintentional" ombre since it essentially became an ombre from my lack of motivation to dye my hair. Finally, I decided to get rid of the "yellowish" tones by dying the hair that was previously dyed back to a color similar to my natural one. I'm in love with it, though. I'll reveal soon.
  • Yesterday was my baby sister Mia's birthday and we had a blast. It's funny how generations change because she just turned 11 and got her first phone ever (an iPhone 6S, what).
Hopefully I'm not leaving anything out but, that's all the things I've been loving/obsessing over during this past month (and probably further back). Surprisingly nothing beauty related--so weird. I have so many things planned for the time to come: I've decided on a schedule time (yet again) but this time will be consistent (I promise) every Tuesday & Friday at 10 am, like I've been doing for the past week or so...
Please be here and check the new content~!

Things I'm Loving Lately • A Lookbook

May 20, 2016

I'm in love with the effortlessness of Summer outfits since it is all about comfortable, ventilated outfits. Also, because me and my family are currently in the process of travel and trips, I love outfits that involve backpacks as they add a sense of adventure to your outfit. I find this to be super cute.

I don't think I've ever mentioned this on my blog but I gave up on dying my hair about a year and a half ago because it is just too tenuous. It's expensive, painful, high-maintenance, etc. However, since I stopped dying my hair, I now have sort-of like an ombre that was not intentional and it's getting on my nerves. Since then, I've been obsessed with toning my "ombre" into a gray-ash color... just to keep adding to my monochrome addiction (laughs). Hopefully I can get this done in the future because it looks really chic and pretty.

I haven't been able to get over my fringe/bangs obsession so that's something that I've been loving and thinking about ceaselessly as of late. Hopefully I can cut my bangs by the end of the Summer to start off my new school year with a completely new look!

(All of these pictures we found through Pinterest)

Summer Bucket List

May 18, 2016
Summer break started a week ago for me and, like any other Summer break, I have a list of things I want to accomplish. My family and I are getting ready to leave on a trip very soon so, new adventures are to come and I look forward to sharing a bunch of pictures here!

[my motto; laughs]

1. Keep learning Korean (I want to be able to read smoothly, at least).
2. Keep learning Japanese (I want to know many expressions, since the characters are more difficult than Korean).
3. Whiten my teeth; ergo drink less coffee.
4. Drink more green tea.
5. Have a fun work-out routine that I can keep going for three months.
6. Go down three jean sizes.
7. Get choppy bangs & dye my hair a fun, different color (and let it grow).
8. Finish the Harry Potter series!
9. Finish watching Sailor Moon, and watch at least three more anime!
10. Let my nails grow to shape them into almond style.
